Freedom Run is a casual iPhone game developed entirely by our own Spiralstorm Games unit. We’ve developed this game to learn more about the iPhone’s SDK and to develop our own toolkit for better iPhone application development in the future.
The outcome far exceeded our expectations both on the technology and distribution ends.
Whoever said politics couldn’t be fun didn’t play Freedom Run! Freedom Run is a mini agility game in which the player must use the iPhone’s tilt controls to keep the republican and democrat mascots balanced for as long as he/she can.
Spiralstorm created a cartoony theme that features an elephant riding atop a donkey (political mascots) through a D.C styled street. Spiralstorm has also created an original soundtrack that gives Hail to the Chief a cartoony feel to fit.
To add replayability Fileitup Interactive created an online leaderboard system that tracks daily, monthly, and overall winners and ranks them for their runs.
Freedom Run was a great experience for us and resulted in the development of several tools specific to the iPhone:
Pixel Graphics Engine – A graphics engine that allows for easy manipulation and animation on the iPhone built on top of the OpenGL that`s available on the iPhone.
iPhone Analytics – A metric-based, tracking engine for actions performed within any iPhone application built on a proprietary communication server designed to get the most accurate results.
appFigures – Visualizing Apple’s download reports has proven to be problematic and time-consuming. So the guys at Fileitup Interactive developed this custom application that transforms text-based reports to visual and interactive graphs.
35,000 downloads (at the time of writing) speak for themselves! Not a number person? Feel free to read one of the several great reviews the game has received online including the one from Macworld.com.
